I have long, curly natural medium brown hair with a lot of reddish tones in it. I am starting to get a few grays and I want to cover them (%26amp; maybe go to a darker brownish red shade). I want to find something that isn't too drying and will last.
Please don't tell me to go to a salon - I know that is the best way to go. I simply cannot afford salon hair every 6-8 weeks (I have tried fitting it in my budget but it doesn't work).
Thank you!
What is the best at-home hair color?
I like L'Oreal Preference or Excellence. The one in the pink box (Excellence I think) is better because it has a pre-treatment tube that conditions the hair before coloring.
My hair has reddish undertones also, and I've discovered that my hair tends to look brassy after dying it unless I use colors that include the word "ASH" in them. Right now, I'm using Medium Ash Brown.
My hair is down to my waist, so the ends have been dyed many times. With the L'Oreal, the ends feel as healthy as the top of my hair.
Nice n Easy and Nutrisse Garniere both dried my hair out a lot, so I don't like those brands.

I like Garnier Nutrisse...but if you have longer or thick hair it might take two boxes. It covers well and for a do it at home job your hair feels better after than before.

There's lots of different hair dying products, but which ever you get make sure that it has hydrating conditioner. And that also keeps it from fading fast. I think you should not go for and extremely dark color because it makes u look more pale, depending on your skin tone. and yea salons are expensive!

My sister swears by L'Oreal Feria. There are also stores that sell salon-quality/professional formulas, so you can also go check them out and compare products based on the hair color you want and what you're starting with. The important thing to do is deep condition afterwards, and once a week.
Also consider using a toning shampoo that will help you maintain the glossiness of the color in between dyeing. (L'Oreal Colorvive, Aveda, etc.)

I would suggest going to Sally beauty supply (they welcome walk ins now) and i use miss clairol (brown bottles) and then use the processor in the white jugs (should be near the miss clairol) i would use 30 strength for your hair, mix it 1 to 1 in an aplicator bottle and appliy for 20-40 minuits depending on how much darker you're going

What is the best at-home hair color?
loreal coleur experte
easy and great results
doesn't leave you with terrible roots or grow out too soon because the two tones kind of make it blend together
