i have medium brown hair, and i want them to be just barely noticable, but i cant buy anything to dye it.

1)squeeze out pure lemon juice in a cup

2)mix it with hair conditioner, about half the amount of the lemon juice.

3) put it all over your hair evenly or wherever you want the highlights. Put enough in you hair so your hair would feel moist.

4) go out in the sun and let your hair dry in the sun for couple of hours.

5) depending on the shade of your hair, it would vary the color on how bright your hair will be.

6) wash out your hair with shampoo and conditioner, and blow dry hair completely to see the difference.

6) if it doesn't work that well, do it daily and you will see a difference.

Side effects:

the bad thing about doing this is that your hair would become damaged and fried from the sun. Maybe not a lot but it will be a bit damaged. So you would probably want to use conditioner daily. I recommend Pantene Pro-V shampoo and conditioner.

squeeze a couple of lemons into a bowl, use a sponge or cloth to dampen your hair with it, the acid in the juice will react when you sit out in the sun with it in your hair, and you'll have subtle high lights if you do this a few times. this works great if the lemon juice is really concentrated. you can squeeze your own or buy the plastic lemons full of lemon-juice concentrate at your local grocery store [very inexpensive]

if you can't get in the sun for very long [half an hour or so]

try a blowdryer. there's also this stuff called 'Sun-In' and it's the same concept, you spray it on your hair and sit in the sun, it gives you a lighter shade in your hair.

If you were seriously about dying it from home, you would have to buy a kit from your local drugstrore (cvs rite ad target walgreens etc) Theyre a special kit for how blonde you wanna go, your hair color so on and so forth. But can i be honest? I did the box thing for so many years and nothing compares to getting your hair professionally high lighted by a trained stylist. Its a little more pricely (usally around 60 dollars) but its SO worth it. Its one thing if youre thinking about going a couple shades darker, but lightening is so much more difficult to achieve the color you want at home. Not only achieving the color you want, but more difficult period. But if its not something for you (going to a salon for professional highlights) just make sure your buying a bleach product -bleach is what lightens your hair- and use the "cap" some dyes come with a cap and i would recommend using it because its easier to get the full head of even highlights that way.
