How do you fade dark dye in hair?

I just recently dyed my pretty medium brown hair color to a very dark brown/red dye that looks like black cherry. I don't like it very well but I cannot dye it back because you can't lift dye with dye. What can I use to make the color fade faster?

You could go to the salon and have a professional work on it. There are treatments (not dyes) they can do to lighten the hair up a few shades and it won't hurt your hair. As far as doing it on your own, I was always told to use a clarifying shampoo or one that's specifically for body/volume -- they both tend to fade color rather quickly. If you want it to fade quickly, you should wash your hair at least twice a day but make sure to use a conditioner too so it doesn't dry out. When I've done this, I wash it maybe 2 or 3 times while in the shower both at morning and night. Does that make sense? Two showers, but washing it 2 or 3 times during each shower. That's because I've been wanting to get it to fade quickly. But again, always use a good conditioner so it doesn't dry out.

I've seen a treatment at the pharmacy stores where I live that is sort of a "goof off" treament for dyed hair. It's supposed to take you back to your original color when you've dyed it a color you don't like. I've never had the nerve to use it though. I've always been afraid it would fry my hair or make it fall out.

If it's very recently, wash it several times with Pert. That's what my stylist told me to do. It fades some of the black out of it, and it does work.
